| | Design is the arrangement of
art's smallest units -
elements such as line, value, and form within an artwork;
principles of design help us organize elements
to achieve a successful design.
Just as the ABCs are
the simplest units of the written language,
the elements - line, shape, form, value, color, space, texture -
are the
simplest units of a visual language.
The
rules of grammar help us write better.
The principles of design
help us create better visual art.
