Lesson 2:  How can you make sure a drawing has correct
proportions and angles?

Activity A.  Students will draw a single box to practice drawing angles.

Linear perspective is explained.  Draw boxes in one point perspective, two point perspective and stairs in three-point perspective.

Activity B.  Students will learn to use a “unit” of measurement as a measuring tool and a pencil as a measuring/angle tool.  They will draw a stack of boxes – using one box as a unit of measurement.  How tall is the box?  We will measure it together.  How wide is the box?  Where does one box end and another begin?  They will translate these measurements into a scale appropriate for their piece of paper (9 x 12”) to ensure they can fit all the boxes on their pieces of paper. H.7.1, H.9.1

Materials:  Drawing paper, soft-leaded pencils, rulers.

Evaluation:  Drawings will be evaluated according to creativity and mechanics (drawing the boxes the correct size with correct proportion and angles).
