Pre-Columbian Zoomorphic Pottery

This unit is designed to introduce you to ceramics from the early history of the Americas.

 Unit Objectives: Students will: 

  • research pre-Columbian zoomorphic ceramic forms and their uses

  • create their own zoomorphic form

  • decorate the form with engobes and slips

 

Activity A. Search internet, view slides, read history pages, and look for examples in books and postcards of pre-columbian zoomorphic ceramics.  Make sketches of your ideas. H.1.2, H.7.1 

 

Activity B. Create a zoomorphic form.  Coiling is probably the best technique to use, but you may use the wheel if you wish.  Decorate your form with slips and engobes.
