Many grants are available to teachers. In Indiana, teachers can apply for the Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Grant, an $8,000 award for teacher renewal. In 2000 Ms. Strother was awarded the grant and spent the summer in Faenza , Italy learning maiolica glazing techniques, travelling, and learning the language. See a summer in Italy .
The Fulbright Memorial Fund awarded three-week travel grants to Tokyo, Japan. In 2001 Ms. Strother visited Tokyo and Kanoya City, Kagoshima. Visit her virtual field trip to
Japan , and her
Photo Exchange , an exhibit created by six American and six Japanese girls.
The Freeman Foundation funds Teaching About Asia seminars for teachers, which are organized by The National Consortium for Teaching About Asia. Ms. Strother attended a seminar at Indiana University,
East Asian Studies Center in the fall of 2001. The seminars provide opportunities for teachers to apply for an additional grant to visit an Asian country. Ms. Strother visited
China in 2004.
The special part of any study tour is getting to know people from another culture. Ms. Strother met high school students in China and arranged

In 2006 Ms. Strother spent seven weeks in South Africa in a National Endowment for the Humanities summer Seminar for teachers . It was a life changing summer and an incredible introduction to
Africa.
Travel to Egypt
Egypt with Ms. Strother, where she spent three weeks in June 2007. In 2008 Ms. Strother received another Teacher Creativity Grant to spend a month in Granada, Spain and Fes, Morocco studying
Islamic Tile Designs.
In 2010 Ms. Strother lived in Oaxaca, Mexico for one
month, where she studied Mesoamerican Cultures & Their
