IHSAA STATE @TERRE HAUTE

Jenny 32nd at the IHSAA STATE MEET 2004

state.jpg (51838 bytes)

Jenny Kulow 32nd. I would like to congratulate Jenny for an outstanding year. She ran a great race and moved up from the top fifty to the top forty half-way through the race. It seemed that she got stronger as the race went on. Placing 32nd is the best finisher by a BC girl at the Cross Country State Meet. Jenny worked hard during this past summer and ran the miles she had in order for her to get where she is today. This race set her up nicely for her senior season. She is the thirteenth best junior and will have move up in order to become one of the top ten seniors.

IHSAA SEMI-STATE @IU

Girls: BC 13th with 269 Points.

The girls team could not put everything together today. The windy rainy IU course proved to take the best of us today. This being the first Semi-State run for the girls team, they ran an okay race.  The problem was that we needed a great race and we had an average day. The eagles just could not get it together today. The lone bright note for the team was Jenny Kulow placing tenth and making it individually to the State Meet. The other finishers were Brittney Wagler 24th, Holly Fisher 69th, Justina Peters 76th, Lauren Lafferty 142nd, Mallory Smith 143rd, Leslie Campbell 150th.  The team will have to do some recruiting and some more miles if they want to make it back to the Semi-State. This is the best girls team for any sport in the schools history

Boys: BC 9th with 275 Points.

One of the weakness that this team had all year was not having a lead runner. Seven of the eight teams in front of us had a runner in the top fourteen for team scoring. The eagles first runner was in thirty-fifth place for team scoring and in a big meet such as this it just killed us. The eagles changed up their line-up once again with Zack Branham leading the way in 39th place. Zack ran a senior race today and can always remember this race. Other finishers were Billy Howard 43rd, Andrew McMasters 56th, Patrick McCormack 73rd, Nick Zellmer 97th, Dylan Wright 98th, and Wil Adams 119th.  The team will need to do more work and recruiting in order for them to make it back to the Semi-State.

IHSAA REGIONAL @ BC

Girls: BC 5th with 115 Points (See results on the side bar)

I believe the regional race was just an average race for the lady eagles. The two All-Regional runners were Jenny Kulow 5th and Brittney Wagler 13th. Other runners for the team were Holly Fisher 18th, Justina Peters 27th, Lauren Lafferty 55th, Mallory Smith 57th & Leslie Campbell 61st. This team was been a special team all year. This team became the first girls team in Brown County history to go to the Semi-State (any sport). This is a great feat for this team, but the goal all season has been to make it to the big show in Terre Haute. The eagles will be one of seven to eight teams that will be fighting for a state birth out of the twenty team field. We have our shot at making that goal or dream a reality if we all run well on the same day. It comes down to one meet for all the glory.

Boys: BC 5th with 129 Points (See results on the side bar)

The boys team on the other hand, picked a wrong day to have an off race. The boys placed fifth by only seven points over a much improved Terre Haute North team from earlier in the year. The differences was our pack was just in front of their pack.  Rebounding from bad performance on Tuesday night was Billy Howard, with a sixteen place finish. He just missed out becoming All-Regional by a half of a second. Other finisher for the eagles were Andrew McMasters 23rd, Patrick McCormick 31st, Dylan Wright 32nd, Will Adams 35th, Zack Branham 37th, & Jason Hardin 49th. This team will have to run at its best at Semi-State in order to run at the Terre Haute State meet. Judging from the results the eagles will be one of five to six teams fighting for the last two spots. I really think that Edgewood, Bloomington North and Bloomington South are a lock to move on. All the miles of running come down to one race to see if the team can make it to the state meet.

IHSAA SECTIONAL @BC

Girls: BC 3rd with 71 Points. (See results on the side bar)

The girls ran a great meet tonight. The eagles ran without their regular fifth girl today due to injury. So the rest of the team had to pick up the slack. Jenny Kulow lead the girls team with runner-up honors follow by two other All-Sectional performers Brittney Wagler 5th and Holly Fisher 11th. Other runners for the sectional team was Justina Peters 20th, Lauren Lafferty 34th, Leslie Campbell 43rd and Alex Kesterson 50th. The eagles will wait to see if their fifth runner will run on Saturday. With or without the use of Mallory Smith, the eagles will be seeking their first Semi-State appearance for any girls sport at Brown County. Coach Abraham still thinks that there is more time that can be cut. "The girls ran well, but we still need some people to drop more time this week and next week." Next up the Brown County Regional.

Boys: BC 4th with 96 Points. (See results on the side bar)

The boys team ran to a twenty-eight second gap, but that seemed to be one of the only bright spots for the eagles. Leading the eagles was Patrick McCormick placing eleventh and taking one of the All-Sectional positions. Other runners where Andrew McMasters 16th, Zack Branham 20th, Wil Adams 24th, Dylan Wright 25th, Billy Howard 27th, & Jason Hardin 30th. The boys team will have to run the times that they ran at WIC in order to move on to their seventh Semi-State in the last ten years. Improvements need to occur within the next two races in order to keep the dream alive.

Jennings County

Girls: BC 16 & JC 43

The girls team finished off a prefect duel meet season with a win over Jennings County. Next up will be the Brown County Sectional.

Boys: BC 18 & JC 44

The boys matched the good performance from Saturday with today's effort today. Winner was Patrick McCormack in a time of 17:04 and second was Andrew McMasters in a time of 17:07. Both are new PR's. Next up will be the Brown County Sectional.

Western Indiana Conference

Girls 2004 WIC CHAMPS

WIC_Gator_04.jpg (55808 bytes)

Girls: BC 27, Owen Valley 70, West Vigo 73, Northview 89, Edgewood 113, South Vermillion 151

The girls team is the first BC girls team to win a WIC title in the schools history. Coach Abraham was very happy with the teams effort today.  The girls placed five runners in the top eleven runners.  Winning the conference individual title was Jenny Kulow (15:22),  also earning all conference honors was 3rd-Brittney Wagler (15:35), 5th-Holly Fisher (15:54), Justina Peters 7th (16:27). Just missing the all conference mark was Mallory Smith who placed eleventh in the meet. There was a total of six PR's set by the girls team. The girls had a great day and hope to see even more improvement in their times. The team will be running at home for the next three meets.

Boys: Edgewood 17, BC 40, West Vigo 94, Sullivan 114, Northview 116, South Vermillion 168, Owen Valley 214

The eagles are starting to drop some of their times. With a fourteen second gap between the first and fifth runner the team made a great improvement from last weeks race at Culver. The eagles ran against the best team in the Southern Indiana. All-conference runners were 4th-Patrick McCormack (17:06), 7th-Billy Howard (17:14), 8th-Andrew McMasters (17:14) & 10th Zack Branham (17:18). The PR's will have to continue in order for the team to move on in the State Series. I am very happy with the improvement of the team.  Great job...

Culver

Girls Closed Race: 1. Brebeuf 47, 2. Culver Academies 66, 3. Brown County 117, 4. New Prairie 13, 5. Bremen 134,  6. Maconaquah 156, 7. Laf Central Catholic 222, 8. John Glenn 233, 9. Northwood 266, 10. South Bend St. Joseph 281, 11. Winamac 298, 12. Kouts 327, 13. Carroll 346, 14. Lewis Cass 361, 15. Rochester 368, 16. Hanover Central 379, 17. Triton 467, 18. North Judson 474, 19. South Central Inc.

The girls ran a great race with many new PR's today. On the way up to the meet on Friday night we made a quick stop to get the girls some spikes and it seemed to pay off. Leading the way for the eagles was Brittney Wagler, 2nd (15:14.9), Jenny Kulow, 5th (15:24.4), Holly Fisher, 24th (16:31.7), Justina Peters, 32nd, (16:47.1), Mallory Smith, 54 (17:33), Lauren Lafferty, 79 (18:29.3) (Dropping another minute) & Leslie Campbell, 117th, (21:30.8).  The lady eagles did an great job going out and competing against the other schools today. This is out best score ever at Culver and if you would have placed the team in the girls large school race we would have come in 12th in the meet out of 23 teams (Right behind #14 ranked Hamilton Heights). The lady eagles showed once again why they will be a team that people will have to race down the stretch to advance in the state series. Next up is the Western Indiana Conference were the eagles will be looking for the schools first WIC title in any sport.

Boys Open Race: 1. Lawrence North 88, 2. Carmel 116, 3. Columbus North 117, 4. Warren Central 118, 5. Portage 159, 6. Valparaiso 165, 7. Fort Wayne Northrop 224, 8. Crown Point 240, 9. Westfield 250, 10. Lawrence Central 285, 11. Bloomington North 299, 12. Chesterton 312, 13. Laporte 332,  14. Sylvania Northview 333, 15. Lake Central 361, 16. Penn 363, 17. Brown County 435, 18. South Bend Clay 519, 19. South Bend Adams 521,  20. Michigan City 551, 21. Fort Wayne Wayne 653, 22. Logansport 711

The boys team ran into a race with nine of the top twenty ranked teams in the race. If the boys would have run in the small school race they would have come in 2nd over all. The boys moved up to the large school race to help give them a taste of what it is like to run with the big schools.  The taste was pretty bitter... Some of the eagles ran well, while others ran off of their pace in previous races. This was a pretty big race for us and some of the runners placed to much pressure on themselves before the race.  Running well for the eagles was Billy Howard, 72nd (17:19.1), Andrew McMasters, 81st (17:28.8) & Patrick McCormack, 86th (17:32.1). The pack is there but it just has not moved up during the year. We have yet to run and finish a race with everyone running their best race.  The eagles next race will be in the WIC next Saturday at Brown County. Edgewood is the heavy favorite to defend their conference title from last year.

South Dearborn Inv. (Combined Winners)

South Dearborn Inv. Boys & Girls Champions

Combined Champions

South_Dearborn_04.jpg (36993 bytes)

Girls: BC 33, South Dearborn 67, Seymour 83, Rushville 89, Cordon Central 96, Jennings County 155, Franklin County 157 & Union County inc.

The girls ran well after a hard week of practice.  The team ran Tuesday night and then ran a workout at 5:30am on Wednesday morning. We then ran another hard workout on Thursday night.  The Lady eagles placed four of there runners in the the top nine places.  Jenny Kulow won the race followed closely by her teammate Brittney Wagler.  The other scorers were Holly Fisher in 5th, Justina Peters in 9th and Mallory Smith in 17th.  The other two varsity runners were Lauren Lafftery ( with a new PR in 30th) and Leslie Campbell in 42nd. am will now prepare for our yearly trip up to Culver. The girls team will be running in the closed race.

Boys: BC 41(Won on sixth man BC's 14th& Rushville's 38th place), Rushville 41, Jennings County 90, Seymour 113, South Dearborn 140, Cordon Central 160, Franklin County 161, & Union County 170

The boys ran well today. Taking six of the top fourteen places proved to be the difference in the meet. Rushville had three runners in the top six but their fourth and fifth man were a little farther back. The BC pack had a fourteen second gap for their top five which also helped them win the meet. Leading the way was Billy Howard 4th, Patrick McCormack 7th, Andrew McMasters 9th, Wil Adams 10th, Dylan Wright 11th, the tie breaker run Zack Branham 14th and Jason Hardin 25th. The eagles ran well but will look for more improvement at Culver.  The boys will move-up to run in the open race to run against many of the top ranked runners and teams in the state.

Bloomington South Inv.

Girls: Bloomington South 42,  BNL 57, BC 63, New Albany 84, Martinsville 132, North Central (Farmersburg) 146 & Edgewood 163.

The girls battled their way to a third place finish. This is a tuff meet just after the Eagle Classic. The race of the day had to be between Jenny Kulow for BC and Maryellen Norman of BNL. Only three tenths of a second separated the two of them for first and second place.  The team competed well and will battle at the South Dearborn Inv. this weekend.

Boys: #18 Edgewood 43, #19 Bloomington South 46, BC 82, BNL 113, New Albany 128, Martinsville 151, North Central (Farmersburg) 170.

The boys ran better then the other day. I was happy to see them compete with two ranked teams. As they say we were the best of the rest. By having a thirty-seven second gap the team is staying close together. We will have wait and see if the eagles can defend their Inv. win from last year at South Dearborn.

Eagle Classic at BC

Girls: (See scores on side bar) 4th Place 132 Points.

The girls did not run a great meet but they did not run a bad meet either. The average race for most of the eagles resulted in a fourth place finish.  The scorers in today meets were Jenny Kulow 5th, Brittney Wagler 11th, Holly Fisher 18th, Justina Peters 37th and Mallory Smith 61st.  Another item to consider is that the three teams that beat the eagles today are all in our Semi-State. Also, Terre Haute South beat the eagles by seven today and we beat them by six at the Columbus East Inv. Another Semi-State team is Terre Haute North and they were only one point behind the BC team today.  I believe that the eagles will continue to seek improvement from the teams runners in order for us to take the step to the next level.

Boys: (See scores on side bar) 7th Place 163 Points.

The boys race was almost a replay of the girls race. Some of the runners ran well while others failed to compete at the same level form earlier in the week. Pacing the eagles in scoring today was Dylan Wright 20th, Patrick McCormick 24th, Andrew McMasters 30th, Billy Howard 44th and Wil Adams in 45th.  The top three ran their season bests.  The jury is still out on whether they will run there season bests on the same day. With three of the teams that beat the eagles today being at the Regional meet improvement needs to occur.

Hauser

Girls: BC 16 and Hauser 41

Good pack run. This Saturday will be the key test of the season so far.

Boys: BC 25 and Hauser 33

Some of boys dropped time again. We backed up the way we ran on Saturday. We will see what we can do with some of the best teams in our Semi-State.

Martinsville Inv.

Girls: BC 48, Crawford County 68, Mt. Vernon 91, Oldenburg Acd. 135, North Central (Farmersburg) 139, Cloverdale 142, Eastern Greene 147, Oak Hill 160, Bloomfield 174, Clarksville, Monrovia & Heritage Christian- Incomplete

The girls team won their first ever invitational under Coach Abraham. The girls ran well today but we still have some room for improvement. Leading the pack was Jenny Kulow in first place and Brittney Wagler in second place. Brittney made a strong push at the very end of the race to place second in the meet. The rest of the team and their places were Holly Fisher 8th, Justina Peters 15th, Mallory Smith 25th, Lauren Lafferty 56th and Leslie Campbell 61st.  Nest week will be a hard week for the lady eagles with the upcoming twenty team field at the Eagle Classic on their home course.

Martinsville Inv. Class A Champions

 Martinsville-Invit-2004-065.jpg (51090 bytes)

Boys: Oak Hill 32, BC 36, Silver Creek 78, Crawford County 139, Heritage Christian 169, Eastern Greene 172, Clarksville 181, Bloomfield 213, North Central (Farmersburg) 227, Cloverdale 280, Oldenburg Acd. 321, Monrovia & Tri-West -Incomplete

The boys team ran into a tough Oak Hill team that is currently ranked #1 in the 500 and under school size. The eagles looked good for the first 4-K but lost a few key spots in the last K. We had some all time bests today. Top six under 18:01. Place for the eagles were Patrick McCormack 5th, Billy Howard 7th, Dylan Wright 8th, Wil Adams 10th, Andrew McMasters 13th, Zack Branham 15th, & Jason Hardin 30th. The teams will run Hauser on Tuesday and come back for a hard race on Saturday for the Eagle Classic.

Edgewood & West Vigo

Girls: BC 15, West Vigo 48 & Edgewood 61

The girls ran to a first ever perfect score.  The top three packed it up and ran well through out the race.  The key runners were Justina Peters and Mallory Smith coming in 4th and 5th respectively. The girls ran a great race after a hard workout yesterday.  We will see if we can make it a prefect week with the small school race at the Martinsville Inv. We will be looking for some drops in time there.

Boys: Edgewood 15, BC 45 & West Vigo 78

The race results looked almost the same as they did last year.  The Mustangs took the top six spots and ran away from the eagles pack.  Coach Abraham thinks that the hard workout played into the placing of his runners. "They are a little dead legged right now, I really think the workout yesterday hurt us a little more then I thought it would.  This should not take anything away from the Edgewood team. I think that right now they are one of the best teams in Southern Indiana hands down." The eagles hope make some improvements in the small school race at the Martinsville Inv.

Martinsville & Indian Creek

Girls: BC 20, Martinsville 44 & Indian Creek 63

The girls team ran a steady pace to win over the Martinsville and Indian Creek teams.  The eagles were lead by Holly Fisher, Jenny Kulow & Brittney Wagler tying for the win.  Finishing out the scoring was Justina Peters in 6th place and Mallory Smith in 8th place. The coach was been very impressed with the team results. He stated that, "If you would have told me that the girls team would be 14-1 at this point of the season I would have said no way." This is the best record of any girls team to date.  The Lady Eagles will see two more conference foes in Edgewood and West Vigo on Thursday.  This will allow them to see where they stack up in the conference.

Boys: BC 25, Martinsville 46 & Indian Creek 63

The team ran a nice pack race. With placing eight in the top eleven places the eagles dominated the race over the other two teams.  Coach Abraham wanted the boys teams work on slowing up their first mile and come on during the second half of the race. "The plan worked well for the first mile but the team seemed to stay to relaxed during the second  and third miles," said Coach Abraham . Another statement from the coach, "We ran our last two races with the same results but we ran them two different ways. I think that we are alright as a team but we need to be more consist during the race."

 Columbus East Inv.

Girls: #9 Carmel 28, BC 96, Terre Haute South 102, Perry Meridian 128, Laf. Harrison 134, Whiteland 149, Crawford County 158, Ben Davis 177, North Harrison 198, Columbus East 284, Madison 288

The Girls team did a great job today with their best ever finish in the Columbus East Inv.  The team was lead by Jenny Kulow. She came in third overall in the meet. Other BC runners were Brittney Wagler 7th, Holly Fisher 19th, Justina Peters (Great race today) 25th, Mallory Smith 42nd, Lauren Lafferty 69th & Leslie Campbell 73rd.  This is the best ever finish for a Brown County girls team in an invitational this big.  Coach Abraham said that, "If the girls can continue to run this way throughout the season, we may be able to do some special things this year". We hope to continue the winning mark at Martinsville.

Boys: #7 Lawrence North 28, #1 Carmel, Terre Haute South 117, BC 132, Laf. Harrison 142, Whiteland 164, Columbus East 191, Crawford County 211, North Harrison 215, Madison No Score

The boys team had some problems with the pace today. They also ran into two ranked teams in the top seven in the state of Indiana.  The pack technique did not work well for the eagles today. They had a pack of six runners from places 24th to32nd place.  Coach Abraham was happy with the twenty-one second gap for his top five runners.  "They kind of fell a sleep in the middle of the race", Said Coach Abraham. He also added that, "This is only one race out of many to come". Pacing the eagle today was Wil Adams 24th, Patrick McCormack 25th, Andrew McMasters 26th, Billy Howard 28th, Dylan Wright 29th & Zack Branham 32nd. LN & Carmel took up fourteen of the top eighteen spots.

  Owen Valley 4-Way:

Girls: BC 19, Owen Valley 52, Northview 62 & Shakamak 77

The BC girls looked impressive in their first meet. With Jenny Kulow, Brittney Wagler, and Holly Fisher leading the way for the eagles.  Coach Abraham was very impressed with the girls pack. With the top three girls within 32 seconds, the front pack looked great for the eagles.  The other two scores were Justina Peters and Mallory Smith. Justina ran a PR and cut hear best time by almost a minute while Mallory was within fifteen seconds of her all time best.  The next meet should tell how improved they are because they will be running against #9 Carmel.

Boys: BC 15, Northview 48, Shakamak 57 & Owen Valley No Score

The boys started the season off with a great run.  Frosh Patrick McCormack ran to the win with the pack of upper classman following.  With the top six runners with less then thirty seconds the eagles look to be much improved this year.  Other top runners were Dylan Wright, Andrew McMasters, Wil Adams, Billy Howard, and Zack Branham. This team will also see where they stand when they run #1 Carmel and #7 Lawrence North on Saturday.
