IHSAA STATE MEET

Jenny Kulow 10th at STATE & IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winner

Today was one of the best days in schools history for girls cross country at Brown County HS. Jenny ran a career best at the meet that counts the most. Jenny placed tenth, which is the best ever placing by a Brown County girl and the first ALL-STATER for the BC girls. By placing tenth and being the second overall senior to finish she will represent Indiana as an Indiana All-Star. This is a great honor for her and the school. Then to cap off a great day, she won the mental attitude award for the IHSAA. This is another great achievement for Jenny.  She ran a near perfect race. At the 2-K mark she was in the top thirty and by the 3-K mark she moved into the top 15. Over the last K she moved to her final finishing spot of tenth place. Great season and a great cross country career.

BNL IHSAA SEMI-STATE

Girls: Terre Haute North 119, Terre Haute South 125, Tell City 133, Jasper 171, BNL 187, Evansville Reitz 210, Blgtn North 213, Blgtn South 248, South Spencer 262, Heritage Hills 267, Gibson Southern 273, Floyd Central 306, Southwestern 327, Silver Creek 338, New Albany 346, Castle 359, Signature School 371, Crawford County 378, Brown County 422, Evansville Central 477

The girls team ran pretty good on a hard BNL course. Pacing the eagles was Jenny Kulow who placed 2nd overall in the BNL Semi-State. That is the best placing for a BC girl in schools history. Jenny will be trying to place in the top fifteen so that she can make the podium at the State meet. Other finishers Brittney Wagler 66th, Mallory Smith 131st, Leslie Campbell 140th, Lauren Lafferty 141th & Alex Kesterson 142nd. For only having six girls on the team, this team did a great job. Now the eagles will have to find some replacements for next years team.

Boys:  Blgtn North 116, Silver Creek 130, Floyd Central 145, Mitchell 157, Terre Haute North 194, Northeast Dubois 229, Evansville Central 233, Barr-Reeve 238, Brown County 248, Blgtn South 260, Evansville Mater Dei 261, Evansville Reitz 263, Evansville North 274, Seymour 289, Clay City 336, Tell City 347, Jeffersonville 383, BNL 421, Crawford County 421, Southwestern 454

The heart break continues for another year. After dealing with all of the problems this year we could not break through and make it to another state meet. The Eagles were lead by Curtis Carr in 16th, Andrew McMasters 23rd, Dylan Wright 50th, Nick Zellmer 112th, Derek Wright 116th, Thomas Crumrine 131st & Jesse Lacy 151st. If the eagles would have run the way they did in the Regional they would have advanced. Now we will have to find some individuals that are willing to make the sacrifices that it takes in order to get back to this level and beyond in the State Series.

Brown County IHSAA REGIONAL

Girls: Terre Haute South 42, Terre Haute North 59, Bloomington South 73, Bloomington North, 86, Brown County 149, Owen Valley 190, Northview 194, Linton-Stockton 217, West Vigo 228, North Central 272

The Lady Eagles ran their best race when it counted. Going back to the second straight Semi-State is an incredible feat considering the team only started with seven girls and ran a majority of the season with only six runners running. We lost one runner due to injury. I knew at the beginning of the year it would be a slow process with getting all of the girls to drop time. As the season progressed, I really thought that the girls could make it back to the Semi-State. Becoming only the second team in school's history to go to a Semi-State is a special thing. Leading the eagles was Jenny Kulow who was Regional runner-up (All-Regional Runner), Brittney Wagler 14th (All-Regional runner), Mallory Smith 44th Season Best, Lauren Lafferty 46th PR, Alex Kesterson 47th PR, & Leslie Campbell 53rd. Great job Girls...

Boys:  Bloomington North 57,  Terre Haute North 84, Bloomington South 113, Brown County 118, Clay City 132, Terre Haute South 147, Northview 178, Edgewood 185, Martinsville 187, North Central 220

The boys team became the eighth Semi-State team in the past eleven years for Coach Abraham & the BCXC Crew. The fourth place finish is still a little higher then the coach and the team wanted but to just have a chance to compete at the Semi-State is a great accomplishment. The boys team moved within five points of a tough Bloomington South team. They have placed one place in front of us in the last two races. The shocker of the meet is when Terre Haute South (whom won the Terre Haute North Sectional) came in 6th place. Placing for the eagles was Curtis Carr 3rd place (All-Regional Runner), Andrew McMasters 13th (All-Regional Runner), Dylan Wright 19th, Nick Zellmer 39th (All time PR), Thomas Crumrine 47th, Derek Wright 50th, & Jesse Lacy 53rd (All-time PR). This team has battled the injury & sickness bug all year and to see some of the JV runners step it up at the end of their Junior & Senior years is a special thing. Great job...

Brown County IHSAA SECTIONAL

Girls: Bloomington South 43, Bloomington North 45, Brown County 118, Owen Valley 130, Linton-Stockton 142, Edgewood 154, Bloomfield 178, Martinsville 192, White River Valley 194, Shakamak 211

The BC girls team was up to the challenge today at their home course of eagle park. Four of the six girls set personal records, with Jenny Kulow setting a new school record. Her mark beat the old mark by almost over ten seconds. Other girls that ran on the eagles third place team were Brittney Wagler placing 7th, Mallory Smith 34th , Lauren Lafferty 36th, Alex Kesterson 40th & Leslie Campbell 45th. The eagles will need the same type of effort on Saturday to make it back to the Semi-State.

Boys: Bloomington North 27, Bloomington South 67, Brown County 75, Edgewood 111, Martinsville 121, Bloomfield 183, Shakamak 183, Linton-Stockton 217, Owen Valley 258

The boys team ran to a 3rd place finish in which Bloomington North ran away from the field. The eagles where competing against a strong Bloomington South team for the runner-up spot. The panthers beat the eagles by an eight point margin. Curtis Carr lead the way for the eagles with a second place finish. Curtis was been battling some sickness of late. Other placers for the team where Andrew McMasters in 9th, Dylan Wright 14th, Thomas Crumrine 23rd, Derek Wright 27th, Jesse Lacy 29th & Nick Zellmer 30th. The eagles will be ready to compete in the BC Regional on Saturday.

Jennings County

Girls: Brown County 19 & Jennings County 37

The Eagles tapped off a second undefended dual meet season. The eagles ran and competed well. To have an undefeated season once is special but to be able to do it twice makes it that much better.

Boys: Brown County 17 & Jennings County 41

The Eagles tapped off an undefended dual meet season. The eagles ran and competed well with Curtis Carr staying at home and resting up for the State Series.

Western Indiana Conference

Girls: Northview 49, Owen Valley 63, Brown County 64, Edgewood 74, West Vigo 96, Sullivan 96 & South Vermillion  Inc.

The girls team ran like they have in previous meets. Having a strong one-two is important but the three-four-five runners are more important in most meets. Today's meet is a prime example of how the season has gone throughout the year. Taking the top two spots was defending conference champion Jenny Kulow and Brittney Wagler respectively. They both ran great races and did what they could do for the team. Other scores for the team was Mallory Smith 17th, Alex Kesterson 19th and Lauren Lafferty in 25th.

Boys: Brown County 33, Northview 45, Edgewood 68, South Vermillion 138, Sullivan 142, West Vigo 142 & Owen Valley 177

The boys team won their fourth conference title since the conference was established in 1999. The Eagles are running a little tired right now and just had enough to beat a strong Northview team by twelve points. Curtis Carr ran away with the race by beating the second place runner by 51 seconds. With his performance, he also established a new conference record by three seconds. Andrew McMasters 4th & Dylan Wright 5th, whom both ran average days, were the only other two runners to take home all-conference honors. The rest of the team packed it up taking places 11-14. Just missing all conference honors was Thomas Crumrine in 11th place. The other runners were Derek Wright 12th, Nick Zellmer 13th and Tanner Gott 14th. We ran well together but still need to see some improvement in order to go far into the State Series.

Culver Inv.

Girls: Closed Race: #17 Culver Acd. 95, S.B. St. Joseph 128, Hamilton Heights 132, New Prairie 181, Brebeuf Jesuit 183, Bremen 205, Mishawaka Marian 207, Hanover Central 235, Winamac 253, Maconaquah 304, Laf Central Catholic 309, Kouts 341, Carroll 367, John Glenn 384, Brown County 395, Pioneer 397, Cranbrook Kingswood 414, Rochester 425, Morgan Township 450, Northwood 454, Oregon-Davis 457, Lewis Cass 472, Caston 627

The girls ran pretty good today. Placing in the top twenty for the race was Jenny Kulow in 4th & Brittney Wagler in 17th. The eagles are still looking for better scoring out of their 3,4 & 5 runners. Next up for the eagles will be the WIC championships at Eagle Park.

Boys: #2 Warren Central 92, #4 Carmel 142, #1 Columbus North 152, #5 Valparaiso 171, #7 Lawrence North 192, Bloomington North 216, #8 F.W. Northrop 217, Hamilton Southeastern 225, #10 Crown Point 230, #6 Northridge 232, #9 Portage 271, Chesterton 308, Sylvania Northview 347, Westfield 352, Brown County 408, Lake Central 412, Laporte 432, Michigan City 436, Wawasee 490, Lawrence Central 546, Penn 570, South Bend Riley 581, South Bend Adams 654, Goshen 751, South Bend Clay 751, Logansport 839, South Bend Washington 873

The boys team ran well today. We had many PR's and team ran well without a couple of varsity runners. If we just could get all of the runner healthy and lower their times they could be a dangerous team in the state series. Curtis Carr Re-set a new school in 15:39.1 and placing in a tie for 9th on Culvers all time boys list. Just making the list is very impressive let a lone being one of the top ten runners makes it that much better. His time places him as one of the top five runners in the state. The reason why the eagles moved up from the closed race was to see how they would perform against some of the best teams in the state. The Eagles held their own placing 15th in a field of 28. The race included nine of the top ten schools in the state of Indiana. Placing in the middle of the pack is a pretty solid performance for the eagles. Scorers for the eagles where Curtis Carr 2nd, Andrew McMasters 58th (.1), Dylan Wright 67th, Derek Wright 135th, & Thomas Crumrine 146th. In order to make a move in the state series the eagles will have to find a 4th & 5th man.

South Dearborn Inv.

Girls: Union County 47, Rushville 61, South Dearborn 68, Brown County 80, Oldenburg 85, & Franklin County, Jennings County Inc.

The girls team did not run as well as they can. After taking the top two places the eagles struggled to with their 3rd, 4th & 5th runner. We scored 3 points with two runners and then we turned around and scored 77 points with three runners. In order for us to be some what successful we are going to need our back runners to move up. I hope today is only an off day or we could be in trouble come state series time.

Boys: Brown County 33 (Three time Champions), Rushville 43, South Dearborn 95, Jennings County 100, Union County 113, Franklin County 157 & Oldenburg 173

The boys team ran the best race of the year. One of the things that I have been talking to them about is to work as a team. Today they worked as a team. Curtis Carr (NEW SCHOOL RECORD HOLDER) is a little faster then the rest of the boys, so he runs by himself. Otherwise, Dylan Wright 4th place and Andrew McMasters 5th place work very well together. The other pack that is starting to move-up is Dakota Walker ( 30 Second PR), Derek Wright, Tanner Gott (34 Second PR) & Thomas Crunrine are understanding how to work together. I think that if this team keeps on improving like I think they can we could be a very dangerous team come State Series time.

Indian Creek

Girls: BC 22 & IC 35

The Lady ran well at Indian Creek today. It was nice to see a racing effort from a few of the runners tonight. The two individuals that raced the best were Mallory Smith (Passing two girls in the final 500 meters and Brittney Wagler who passed the IC girl with around 300 meters from the finish line. This meet keeps the girls with a perfect record in duel meets over the past two years.

Boys: BC 22 & IC 38

The boys ran well against the creek today. Leading the way was Curtis Carr who had to work today to get the win. The eagles tried to stay back at the start working on the second half of their race but that plan went out the window after the pace went out a little to hard.

Bloomington South Inv.

Girls: BNL 32, Bloomington South 46, New Albany 75, BC 113, Edgewood 131, Martinsville 151, & North Central (Farmersburg) 171

The girls team competed well on a tough IU course. The hilly terrain took its total on the girls times but as a group they competed well against the field pretty good. Scoring for the team has Jenny Kulow 2nd (again two years in a row), Brittney Wagler 11th, Mallory Smith with her best race of the year in 32nd, Leslie Campbell 41st, and Lauren Lafferty in 47th. The girls next meet will be Indian Creek and Edinburgh on Thursday making up the rain out from a couple of weeks ago.

Boys: Bloomington South 50, BC 60, BNL 97, Edgewood 120, North Central (Farmersburg) 126, Martinsville 127 & New Albany 128

The boys ran very well on the hills of the IU course today. Our goal was to win the meet and we came within ten points of making that happen. A tough Bloomington South team had a nice strong pack. Still running without the help of Billy Howard the team made some great strides in competing within the race. With only a few days after one of the largest sporting events in Brown County History (Eagle Classic), the eagles competed well against a pretty strong field. Scoring for the eagles were Curtis Carr in 2nd, Andrew McMasters 5th, Dylan Wright 11th, Dakota Walker 20th & first time scorer Thomas Crumrine in 23rd spot. The eagles are finally starting to get some scoring out of other members of the team.

Eagle Classic

Girls: 4th place finish in Class A, 11th Place out of 24 Overall

The girls team was paced by Jenny Kulow who 6th overall and is still recovering from being a little sick this past week. Running a great race today was Brittney Wagler who placed 13th overall. I really believe that she will drop more time in the next few weeks. Other scoring runners where Mallory Smith 103rd, Alex Kesterson 110th & Lauren Lafferty 115th. It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks play out.

Boys: 1st place finish in Class A, 5th Place out of 25 Overall

The boys team ran a pretty good race concerning the past week of practice. Still running without one of there top five runners the eagles beat a strong Silver Creek team (missing their 2nd & 3rd runners). This was a great win for the eagles and the race format allowed them to see where they stand against all twenty-five teams. Curtis Carr came in second overall to new course record holder Adrie Dannemiller (15:46). Other scoring runners are Andrew McMasters 20th, Dylan Wright 29th, Derek Wright 47th & Dakota Walker 62nd. Next up will be a strong field at the Bloomington South Inv.

Hauser

Girls: BC 15 & Hauser Inc.

Boys: BC 15 & Hauser Inc.

Martinsville Inv. Class A

Girls: Crawford County 50, Brown County 83, Heritage Christian 93, Oak Hill 118, Oldenburg Academy 124, Providence 125, Eastern (Greene) 139, Bloomfield 197, North Central (Sullivan Co) 199, Clarksville, Cloverdale, Monrovia, Tri-West, Indianapolis Washington INC.

The lady eagles came up a little short of defending their team title. The team is starting to drop some time and learn how to race again. One bright spot was that Jenny Kulow defended her individual title from last year. Other scores where Brittney Wagler 3rd, Mallory Smith 23rd, Lauren Lafferty 27th, & Alex Kesterson in 37th. In order for this team to be successful in the future the teams 3-4-5 runners will have to continue to drop time. Next up is Hauser on Tuesday at Eagle Park.

Boys: Oak Hill 31, Brown County 50, Crawford County 85, Heritage Christian 100, North Central (Sullivan Co) 141, Bloomfield 208, Providence 208, Eastern (Greene) 209 Clarksville 209, Monrovia 294, Oldenburg Academy 299, Tri-West, Indianapolis Washington INC.

The boys team did their best against a strong Oak Hill team. Oak Hill are currently ranked 4th in the middle school size poll and the eagles are ranked 7th. This poll is taken by Indianarunner.com. Taking the top spot in the race was Curtis Carr. Other scorer were Andrew McMasters 5th, Dylan Wright 7th, Derek Wright 17th, & Nick Zellmer in 23rd spot. The eagles lack of a 4-5 man hurt their chances at running for the individual title. The fast pace start seemed to hinder their race. Hopefully, they learned their lesson for future races.

Edgewood & West Vigo

Girls: Brown County 32*, Edgewood 32 & West Vigo 59 (*Won on 6th man tie break)

The girls came through with a win on a new and harder Edgewood course. The course is now a two loop course that added more hills. The lady eagles kept their two year duel meet winning record in tacked after a hard fought 32 tie. They eagles won since our sixth runner was 14th and Edgewood sixth runner was 16th. It was a great tune-up for Saturdays Martinsville Inv.

Boys: Brown County 20, Edgewood 39 & West Vigo 78

The boys came back with a win after loosing to Edgewood last year. Last year Edgewood had one of the best teams in the state but with the loss of four to graduation the Edgewood team is a very young team this year. The Eagles took advantage of there upper classman leadership and ran away with the meet. Taking five of the top seven places the eagles cruised to the nineteen point win.

Indian Creek Rained out

Columbus East Inv.

Girls:  #4 Carmel 21, Terre Haute South 104, Ben Davis 125, Laf. Harrison 142, Whiteland 149, Madison 165, Southwestern 168, Crawford County 179, Brown County 204, North Harrison, 215 & Columbus East 277

The girls team felt for the first time what it is like running without the two seniors from last years team. The scoring went in this order: Jenny Kulow 4th, Brittney Wagler 14th, Mallory Smith 55th, Lauren Lafferty 61st, Leslie Campbell 70th, Hayden Kimerly 72nd, & Alex Kesterson 73rd.  The course was in great shape and the eagles will be looking to improve over the next few weeks. Only time will tell if the eagles can put together a good team by the end of the season.

Boys:  #4 Carmel 20, Brown County 78, Laf. Harrison 91, Terre Haute South 100, Columbus East 137, Crawford County 172, Whiteland 206, North Harrison 217, Southwestern 221, Madison 242

The boys team ran a great race today. Running without two varsity runners the eagles where able to place second some fifty points back of number four rank Carmel H.S. The boys held back at the beginning of the race. With 400 to 500 meter left in the race is when Curtis Carr took over the lead. The other boys held back and also placed well. Curtis Carr 1st, Andrew McMasters 7th, Dylan Wright 8th, Derek Wright 30th, Dakota Walker 32nd, Thomas Crumrine 41st & Alex Zellmer 62nd. The team is running well at the present time but could be one of the best teams in BC History by the end of the season.

  Shakamak 4-Way:

Girls: BC 35, Owen Valley 39, Northview 46,  & Shakamak Inc.

The BC girls team started off the season with a few wins. They where able to hold off an Owen Valley team by only four points. Running without one of their top five runners the girls team placed four girls in the top ten. They where Jenny Kulow & Brittney Wagler tying for first place, Mallory Smith 9th place and Lauren Lafferty coming in 10th place. The girls will see where they stand when they run against some of the best teams in the state on Saturday at the Columbus East Inv.

Boys: BC 23 , Northview 38, Shakamak 78  & Owen Valley 115

The Boys team also started the season with three wins. Lead by Curtis Carr the eagles took 1st place, Dylan Wright & Andrew McMasters tying for 3rd place, Billy Howard 6th and Derek Wright (All time best 18:06) in 9th place. This was a great start to the season. The boys ran in a pack for most of the first mile in a half then started to break away. Now the team awaits an early season match-up against two teams ranked in the top ten in the state. We will be able to see how good the team really is on Saturday at Columbus East.
