4-Way Meet

Western Indiana Conference

Girls: Edgewood 24, Northview 35, West Vigo 99, Owen Valley 111, South Vermillion 119, Sullivan 146 & BC Inc.

Well, the conference race has come and gone. The eagles ran a good race but in the end just ran out of gas over the last part of the race. Both Alex and Brittney set themselves up for an all-conference race but just fell short. Alex placed 11th for the second year in a row and missed all-conference by just one spot. Brittney placed 14th and just could not make the distance over the last 2 K. Rounding out the team was Grace Crum in 41st spot. I thought the girls ran great but just ran into some very good runners from Northview and Edgewood. This is the first year that I have never had an all-conference runner in the WIC on the girls side.

Boys: Northview 34, Edgewood 39, South Vermillion 70, Brown County 104, West Vigo 141, Sullivan 152 & Owen Valley Inc.

Abe's puppies ran pretty good. After not having a team to start the season and still come in 4th in the conference is a great feat by this team. Since, all of the runners will be with me for another two years after this season, I see some great things happening during those two years. Leading the team, and the only individual to make the all-conference team, is Mike Dobson in 7th spot. The other scores Dylan Allen 11th (missed all-conference by just one spot), Josh Burton 15th, Tony Gregory 36th, and Drew Kesterson in 42nd spot. Now we have a couple of meets left and we need to see how much we can improve in those two meets.

Culver Academies

Girls:

The girls ran a much better race today. They got out from the start and were in the thirty's for position at the first K mark. They lost a few spots after that but ran much better. Brittney placed 42nd in 21:24, Alex 50th 21:37 and Grace 193rd in 29:22. The girls seemed also to show signs of the second long trip in eight days and have completed the hardest practice week of the year. Now we will have to see how many all-conference runners we can get.

Boys:

I thought the boys looked a little flat. After a very hard week of practice and the second trip up north in 7 days seemed to pay a toll of the eagles. Mike Dobson ran close to a CB best but just missed by a few seconds. He placed 29th with a time of 17:25. Other scores are Josh Burton 101st-18:32, Dylan Allen 107th-18:36, Tony Gregory 225th-22:49 & Drew Kesterson 227th-23:01. Not bad for another long trip. Next up is the WIC on Friday Night and we will have to see how many all-conference runners we can get.

New Prairie Inv.

Girls: West Lafayette 90, Concordia Lutheran, FW 99, Edgewood 120, Culver Academies 165, New Prairie 171... BC Inc.

The girls did not follow the the game plan. After being told more than once that in a big race that you have to get out in a big meet/race like this the girls did not listen. They went out slow and paid the price. At the first K Brittney and Alex were both buried in the pack. Both were in triple digits for their place. Although they had the bad start they were able to recover some. Alex placed 41st, Brittney placed 50th and Grace rounded out the placing in 182nd spot. We will have to see if they listen for the Culver meet or not.

Boys: South Bend St Joseph's 74, New Prairie 128, Western 142, Plymouth 153, Hanover Central 171...18th BC 460 out of 30 teams.

On the other hand, the boys team ran great. Every boy ran a Career Best at the meet. Mike lead the way with a 17:22, which moved him up to 10th place on the Sophomore list. Dylan placed 53rd which moved him to 11th on the freshman list. Josh placed 71st, Tony (BIG CB) 153rd and Drew (Big CB) in 174th. I was very happy with the boys team. The boy's did not get boxed in and completed well. They are all running better and it will be fun see what happens in the next few years with this group (If they stay together).

Bloomington South Inv.

Girls: Bloomington South 15, Edgewood 68, New Albany 96, BNL 98, Martinsville 123, North Central (Farmersburg) 154 and BC inc.

It looks like the hilly IU course played havoc with the girls race plans. Brittney placed 21st, Alex 24th, and Grace 61st out of the 63 runner field. I know that the girls can runner better that they are not showing it.

Boys: Bloomington South 46, New Albany 63, BNL 69, Martinsville 96, Edgewood 112, North Central (Farmersburg) 173 and BC 175

Once again Mike paced the eagles with a 21st place finish. Other scorer's were Dylan 27th, Josh 50th, Tony 78th, and Drew in 84 in the a field of 86 runners. Just like the girls the boys looked flat for a weekday Inv. It is hard to get ready for an Inv. that is during the week. The hills look like they are a weakness. Next up the New Prairie...

6th Eagle Classic

Results can be viewed on Web site.

Girls:

The girls ran okay. They did not light the world on fire but they competed okay. In the past, we have never run well the night after the home coming football game. Home Coming seemed to affect our running today. In the overall results Brittney placed 55th, Alex placed 77th, and Grace placed 179th out of the 180 runners in the race. One of the problems we seem to have is not getting out well in the race. We will have to see if that is a factor in the two major Inv. of the cross country season.

Boys:  The eagles place 13th out of the 19 teams in the race.

The boys ran in the Frosh/Soph race this weekend. Just like with the girls I believe that home coming was a problem. A number of the runners stayed out to late and did not take advantage of the home course. Out of the field of 86 runners, Mike Dobson lead the eagles with a 6th place finish. Other placers were Josh 22nd, Dylan 31st, Tony 103rd, and Drew 106th out of the 108 runner field.

Hauser

Girls: Hauser and BC both Inc.

I only had two girls run today. Brittney won the meet and Alex came in runner-up. I thought they were a little flat after the big meet on last Saturday. Grace did not run do to an injury.

Boys: Hauser 27 & BC 30

The boys also looked flat from the past weekend's race. Mike paced the eagles with a 2nd place finish followed by Josh 3rd, Dylan 4th, Drew 10th and Tony in 11th. Next up the eagle.

Martinsville Inv. Class A

Girls: Crawford County 34, Perry Central 57, Oldenburg 94, Eastern 103, Oak Hill 117, Monrovia 131, Providence 152, Bloomfield 195 & BC Inc.

It is always great to have a day when everyone has a pr. Well, today was the day. All three of the girls had a CB. Brittney Wagler placed 9th; 21:08, Alex Kesterson placed 11th; 21:10, & Grace Crum 26:10. I am really happy with the results. The girls are moving their times down and will be ready for the post season.

Boys: Heritage Christian 31, Oak Hill 46, Providence 122, Eastern 125, Oldenburg 141, Triton Central 153, Bloomfield 162, Monrovia 162, & BC Inc.

Even without the teams second runner, the team had four CB's. Mike Dobson improved his time almost two minutes from last year. Mike ran a great race and ran to a 17:33, 11th place finish and another 31 second pr for the year. He moved to the 14th on the all-time sophomore list. Also, Dylan Allen moved up the Freshman all-time list with his 18:31 and 29th place finish. He is currently the 14th  on the all-time Freshman list. Rounding out the team was Drew Kesterson in 25:27, 68th and Tony Gregory in 26:53 with a 69th place finish and a two minute PR. Great job.

Indian Creek @ IC

Girls: Indian Creek 15 & BC inc.

On a very hot day the eagles ran very well. With the girls taking the 2nd and 3rd spot in the meet it was a great day.

Boys: Indian Creek 26 and Brown County 33

I really thought that both Josh and Mike looked very good during their races. At the two mile mark they were both in the top two spots. They faltered down the stretch, with Mike making a wrong turn and Josh running out of gas. They placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Dylan Allen placed 5th, Tony Gregory in his first race placed 15 and Drew Kesterson placed 16th. Not to bad for such a young group.

Columbus East Inv.

Girls: Bloomington South 43, Carmel 44, Harrison 118, Perry Meridian 132, Madison 137, East 173, Ben Davis 176, Whiteland 200, Terre Haute South 229, Seymour 238, North Harrison 298, Brown County and Southwestern inc.

Today the eagles went to the very hilly course of Cliffy Creek Elem. They competed well with Brittney placing 22nd, Alex placing 34th and Grace coming in 76th in a PR time. I thought that the ladies went out well and ran a smart race. If you try to go out to hard on this course it can tear you up. After the first K mark the girls where in the 50's or 60's for their position. Britt & Alex both moved up thirty to forty spots in the last 4-K. Grace ran to a career best on the hills of Columbus. She is getting stronger with each passing week. Overall, I thought the three girls did a great job on a very difficulty course.

Boys: Carmel 46, Ben Davis 74, Perry Meridian 76, Bloomington South 106, Seymour 131, Terre Haute South 174, East 182, Whiteland 204, Harrison 213, North Harrison 218, Madison 258, Southwestern 365, Brown County inc.

What a difference a year can make. Mike Dobson, which is the only returnee on the boys team, ran two minute faster then last year. After placing 51st last year and with the addition of a few more teams this year, Mike ran to a 29th place finish and would have been a scorer for nearly ever other team in the meet. The other eagles that ran in the race were Josh Burton 33rd, Dylan Allen 60th and drew Kesterson in 84th. The eagles will have a team for the Indian Creek Dual meet. I thought they ran well on a very difficult course.

   BC 4-Way:

Girls: Northview 25, Shakamak 43, Owen Valley 57 & BC inc.

Both Alex and Britt did a great job today. Placing 8th and 2nd respectively, was a good showing for the two girls. I believe that they both were a little tired from last Saturdays meet. Brittney showed again that she will be one of the top runners in the WIC. Alex on the other hand, will have to improve her time if she wants a shoot at all-conference.

Boys: Northview 26, Shakamak 33, BC & Owen Valley inc.

The boys team is still learning how to run a race. They did a good job in the meet with Mike placing 6th and Josh placing 7th. Dylan and Drew placed 11th and 23rd respectively. Not a bad day for the eagles.

Terre Haute South Early Bird Inv.

Girls: Center Grove 43, Bloomington South 60, Bloomington North 72, Jasper 129, Northview 132, Perry Central 136, Martinsville 170, Terre Haute South 177, & Brown County Inc.

After three hard weeks of practice it was time for our first meet over in Terre Haute. The girls had a great day to run at LaVern Gibson. Since, this was the first time that the girls ran 5-K instead of 4-K, some of the time may seem to be a little slow. Brittney Wagler and Alex Kesterson both ran great times. Brittney came in 22nd and Alex came in 30th. The other member of the team is Grace Crum and she placed 56th. Grace is still recovering from an ACL surgery. I believe that all three will continue to see their times drop as the year goes on.

Boys: Bloomington North 35, Bloomington South 69, Barr Reeve 76, Perry Central 78, Terre Haute South 134, Northview 148, Martinsville 157, Jasper 212, Bloomington South B 218, Brown County, Sullivan, & North Davies Inc.

It looks like the hard work has paid off for the eagles. Mike Dobson (25th) the only returnee from last years team ran a career best in the first meet of the year. He Pr'd by over a half a minute. If Mike is able to do that on the long grass of LaVern Gibson now, then he should be able to lower his time on the faster courses in the up coming weeks. Josh Burton (49th) and Dylan Allen (51st) both ran for the first time in high school. The two of them ran well but still need to find out how to race an xc race. The last member of the squad was Drew Kesterson (67th). Drew is also learning the ropes of racing and should improve in the next few races.
