IHSAA REGIONAL

Girls: Terre Haute North 38, Bloomington South 67, Terre Haute South 98, Martinsville 110, Bloomington North 111, Brown County 153,...

The lady eagles season has come to a close as a team, but the one bright spot was Rose Guingrich. Rose placed 8th in the Regional to move on to the Semi-State at Brown County next week. The team started out okay but after Madison Morris jarred her hip in the woods the chances of moving on were slim. Running second for the eagles was Annette Wininger running to a pr. and placing 32nd. Annette ran a great race and ran her best time of the year.  Next up was Anna Lutes in 36th and Madison gutted out a 40th place finish. Sarah Lewis finished in 44th and rounding out the last two places for the eagles was Emily Medsker 61st and Alice Merryman 64th. The team loses three seniors from this years team and will be looking for some help for next year.

Boys: Bloomington South 37,  Terre Haute South 84, Bloomington North 114, Terre Haute North 121, Martinsville 126, Brown County 135, ...

Ten points is the difference between going home and moving on. The problem is that the eagles were on the wrong side of the ten point swing. Even though the boys team did not move on, the eagles did have two runners move on to the Semi-State. Cody Whipker 12th and Alden Westcott 13th did what they had to to move on. Both ran a great race and moved up during the second half of the race. They will have to drop some time in order to take it to the next level. The rest of the team considered on Logan Minett-Bond 35th, Connor Guingrich 36th, Nick Harding 50th, Zach Roush 58th and Eddie Ryan 59th. I believe that training is correct but the eagles need to focus on the metal part of racing.

IHSAA SECTIONAL

Girls: Bloomington South 47, Martinsville 61, Bloomington North 72, Brown County 88, Bloomfield 133...

Today was an okay day for the Lady eagles. We had some people step it up and we had some people just out for a run. Rose Guingrich has been running great the last few weeks and she continued it in the Sectional race. Rose ran to a 4th place finish and a pr. Rose stayed with the second lead pack before the pack broke up in the middle of the race.  Along with Rose being an all-sectional performer, Madison Morris also joined the club. Madison raced to a 13th place finish and continues to amaze me with her athletic ability. Rounding out the scores were Sarah Lewis 23rd, Anna Lutes 26th, and Annette Wininger 27th. It will be interesting to see  how the eagles fare on Saturday in the BC Regional.

Boys: Bloomington South 24, Martinsville 91, Bloomington North 95, Brown County 97, Edgewood 148,...

The boys team were about as close as you can from being sectional runner-up. Even though the eagles placed fourth, second place was only six points away. Making All-Sectional for the boys team was Alden Westcott 8th and Cody Whipker 12th. Cody ran a smart race did what he had to do to make the top 15. Connor Guingrich 23rd and Logan Minett-Bond 28th will have to move up in the regional race in order for the eagles to go to the Semi-State. Nick Harding ran with some pride and placed 32nd. He had a very good day for the BC team. It is make or break time. You will have six teams fighting for five spots. The weak go home and strong move on...

2nd Pre-State Inv.

Girls: Seymour 91, Eastern Greene 104, Heritage Christian 110, Greenwood 114, Columbus East 115, Brown County 123, Shakamak 123, Jennings County 169, Home School Union 190 & Pike Central 254

The lady eagles ran well in their final tune-up for the State Series. Pacing the eagles was Rose Guingrich win a Pre-State Inv. victory. Rose equaled her best time from this past Saturday and out kicked Alyia Rosado from Greenwood to get the win. Rose enters the state series with wins in her final two races. Sarah Lewis being a little under the weather still gutted out a top seven performance to earn a medal. Anna Lutes also performed well for the eagles. Look for big things from this team in the next few weeks.

Boys: Cathedral 47, Seymour 89, Columbus East 93, Greenwood 109, Brown County 109, Jennings County 149, Heritage Christian 178, Pike Central 216, Eastern Greene 242, Shakamak 254 & Home School Union 316

As well as the girls did, the boys team took a step in the wrong direction. The team still looked flat coming off of the WIC title.  Except for our lead runner (Alden Westcott) the rest of the team did not perform at a high level. We were around four to five places away from were we need to be.

Western Indiana Conference

Girls: Brown County 19, West Vigo 67, Northview 74, Edgewood 98, Sullivan 117, South Vermillion 122, Owen Valley inc.

The Girls stepped it up today. They scored the lowest total ever by a girls WIC team. Nineteen points is a very low score for a seven team race. Leading the eagles was Rose Guingrich with a career best of 19:42. She broke the WIC record by five seconds and is only ten seconds away from breaking the school record. Rose broke away from the rest of the field after the first loop of the two loop course. This was the first time that Rose pushed herself hard for the whole race. The next two finishers were Madison Morris (CB) 2nd and Sarah Lewis 3rd. The two girls worked together and were able separate themselves from the fourth place runner. Madison, who is a part-time cross country runner because she play on the eagles soccer team, showed how good of a runner she is by placing WIC runner-up in her 2nd race all year. She should just continue to get better in the state series. Sarah has her breathing problem under control and was able to become one of a very few group of runners that were all-conference four years in a row. Placing 6th (All WIC) was Anna Lutes (CB). She ran a great race and battled all the way to the end. Rounding out the top five was Annette Wininger in 9th place. The cold weather affected her breathing during the race but she was able to gut out a all WIC placing. Ellen Mills (CB) 25th and Alice Merryman 31st rounded out the eagle team. Look for big things in the State Series from this team.

Boys: Brown County 33, West Vigo 56, Northview 72, Edgewood 77, Sullivan 141, South Vermillion 146, Owen Valley Inc.

For the third year in a row the eagles have walked away from the WIC meet as champions. The eagles are showing the rest of the conference that we can run on any course in the conference and still win the WIC meet. This is the seventh WIC Championship since Brown County entered the conference in 1999. The boys knew going into the meet that West Vigo was the team to beat. They did everything they could to try to upset the BC team. Placing three runners in the top eight did not help West Vigo because the eagles placed their five scorers in the top twelve and our top six in front of their fourth man. Pacing the eagles was Alden Westcott WIC runner-up and Cody Whipker 4th. Both of them were able to run towards the front of the pack and did a great job. Connor Guingrich (CB) 7th and Logan Minett-Bond (9th) came back on the second loop of the course to claim there All-WIC placing's. Today's fifth man was Zach Roush (CB) who just missed out of being All-WIC by two spots. Nick Harding (CB) 15th ran a great race early and faded over the last 2-K. This is by far Nicks best race of the year. Now the eagles have to prepare for the Pre-State meet and the State Series.

Culver Inv.

Girls: 16th out of  37 teams, with 465 Pts.

The girls team had a strong performance from their top three girls. Rose Guingrich once again paced the eagles with a 14th place finish. She ran a smart race but still is learning how to race. Sarah Lewis 62nd and Anna Lutes 63rd both had strong performances on the day.  Ellen Mills ran to almost a (pr) on the Culver course. Look for the eagles to improve over the last few weeks.

Boys: 3rd out of 40 teams, with 210 Pts.

The boys teams dealt with the cold of the night and a wet chilly course on the Culver campus. The eagles came in a distant third behind two strong teams Brebeuf Jesuit and FW Concordia Lutheran. This is the best placing for the eagles ever in the closed race format. Leading the team once again was Alden Westcott 11th and Cody Whipker 14th. Next up for the eagles was Connor Guingrich 47th and Logan Minett-Bond 56th. Rounding out the final three was Eddie Ryan 82nd, Zach Roush 108th and Nick Harding at 113th. The boys really have to work on their 5th man and try to get the gap down below a minute.

Side Note: Boys are ranked 8th in the Semi-State and 9th in the medium school division in the State of Indiana.

South Knox Inv.

Girls: 8th out of 27, Evansville Memorial 53, Greencastle 107, Ev. Mater Dei 118, Gibson Southern 126, Eastern Greene 172, Castle 189, Shakamak 226, Brown County 234, Bloomfield 247, South Knox 254...

The girls team were back to the original seven girls that have been running on the team. Rose Guingrich lead the eagles today with a 4th place finish. She has done what she always does, by running in the top ten early and work her way up as the race goes on. Sarah Lewis (28th) and Anna Lutes (31st) were the next two placers for the team. Next up was Dakota Anderson (94th), she ran a smart race but still has time to give. She get her time down by a couple of minutes if she continues to compete. Ellen Mills (98th), Alice Merryman (100th) and Emily Medsker (113th) rounded out the scoring.  It will be interesting to see how the eagles perform at Culver.

Boys: 1st out of 25 teams,  Brown County 81, South Knox 107, Barr Reeve 130, Evansville Memorial 137, Castle 143, Ev. Mater Dei 168, Eastern Greene 179, Clay City 206 ,Gibson Southern 225, Bloomfield 252

The team ran one of their better races of the year. The course is nothing like the courses we have run in the past few weeks. It had roads you had to cross, gravel to run   on, and a few sharp turns. The boys team did what was expected and won the meet with some slower times but competed well. Placing all of the teams varsity runners in the top forty-four in the meet is a great job (out of the 139 that ran in the meet). Pacing the eagles was Cody Whipker (8th) and Alden Westcott (10th). Alden tried to stay in the lead pack but faded to his 10th place finish. Cody ran a solid race. The next to placers were Logan Minett-Bond (17th) and Connor Guingrich (18th). Another solid meet for the two of them. Rounding out the team was Zach Roush (30th), Nick Harding (38th) and Eddie Ryan (44th). Zach ran a smart race by staying back for the first lap of the two lap course and really picking people off runners down the stretch. Great day.... Side Note: Boys are ranked 8th in the Semi-State and 10th in the medium school division in the State of Indiana.

10th Eagle Classic (View results at Website front page)

The bet: 11pr's Abe runs a 5K after the meet...Abe ran a 5K

Girls: 2nd out of 19 in Class A & 14 out of 37 Overall

The girls finally had a chance to run the full team this year. The two individuals that we have been missing are Annette Wininger and Madison Morris. Since they also play soccer, we had to wait until this weekend to run them in a meet. They jumped into one of the biggest races we run all year. With times just under twenty-two minutes for the pair will make a big difference in our team down the line. Placing second in the Class A race was Rose Guingrich. She set her career best and will be working to break twenty minutes in the near future. Coming in fourth and fifth on the team was Sarah Lewis and Anna Lutes (pr). The eagles ran great but will have to do without the soccer girls for the next two meets.

Boys: 2nd out of 21 in Class A & 9th out of 38 Overall

The boys team stepped it up big time. They ran their best race of the year. Leading the Eagles was Alden Westcott. Alden finally had a breakout race we have been waiting for. Placing tenth in the Class A division is a great placing with the type of competition. Cody Whipker broke seventeen minutes for the first time in his career. Next up was Logan Minett-Bond, he ran in the mid seventeens along with Connor Guingrich. Rounding out the top five was Zach Roush in a time just over eighteen minutes. The Eagles are flying high right now and we will have to see how they respond at South Knox.

20th Artesian Classic Class A Race

Girls: Oldenburg Acd. 59, Tri-West 77, Silver Creek 101, Eastern Greene 113, Bloomfield 122, Brown County 147, Switzerland Co. 152, Heritage Christian 165, Providence 174, Edgewood 250, Crawford Co. 318,  & No Score Monrovia, Indian Creek, Triton Central, Cloverdale, Eminence,

Today, was a hot long day for the girls and we ran an average race. As a team, we finished better then last years team but the heat may have gotten to us. Leading the eagles once again was Rose Guingrich with a 4th place finish. Rose ran in the top fifteen early and moved up.  As the race played out, the top five girls where spread out for the race. If Rose would have been with the leaders at the beginning she could have had a better placing. Feeling a bit under the weather this week, Sarah Lewis finish in 21st spot. Anna Lutes ran to a pretty good early season time and finished in 24th spot. Just like the boys team the girls team is still looking for a fourth and fifth girl to step up.

Boys: Indian Creek 71, Brown County 78,  Silver Creek 89, Eastern Greene 140, Heritage Christian 141, Crawford Co. 163, Switzerland Co. 182, Edgewood 182, Bloomfield 201,     , Triton Central 223, Eminence 257, Providence 269, Cloverdale 319  Oldenburg Acd. 360,  Monrovia, WRV, Lighthouse Christian Inc.

This by far was not one of the better performances for the eagles today. If Silver Creek's fifth man would not have fell do to heat exhaustion the eagles would have been looking at a third place finish. This is after winning the event for the past two years. Cody Whipker was once again the leader of the team. Cody ran a PR and finished 4th in the race. Next was Logan Minett-Bond in 14th place and Alden Westcott in 15th place. Logan ran to another PR in the short season. Alden was to far back for the eagles to make a run at the title this year. The fourth and fifth runner on the team were Connor Guingrich (19th) and Nick Harding in (31st). In order for the eagles to run better we need a fifth man to develop. Not a great day but not a bad day.

Columbus East Inv.

Girls: Bloomington South 26, Col. East 80, Brown County 84, Madison 93, Seymour 107, Southwestern-Hanover 127 & Corydon Central inc.

The girls ran well today. We had three girls in the top fifteen, Rose Guingrich 2nd, Sarah Lewis 7th and Anna Lutes 15th respectively. Rose and Sarah ran just within the top ten for the first 2-K before they started to move up. Rose went from ten place in the early running to the meets runner-up position. She had a great race today. Look for better things to come. Sarah bounced back from a subpar day last week to the seventh place finish and was a few seconds away from her best time ever at Col. East. I am looking forward to see how they handle the fast Martinsville course.

Boys: Bloomington South 30, North Harrison 41, Westfield 114, Seymour 119, Brown County 132, Columbus East 149, Madison 177, Corydon Cen. 181, and Southwestern-Hanover 275

The boys ran great today. We where only 13 pts behind one of the top ranked teams in our semi-state. This meet was the first time that we all of the top seven run and finish in a race. Leading the eagles was Cody Whipker in 18th spot. Cody had a great day and was with Seymour's top two runners. Alden Westcott came in 22nd and frosh Logan Minett-Bond came in 24th overall and was the fourth best freshman of the day. Next was Connor Guingrich in 29th and Zach Roush was fifth man today in 39th spot. This should be a fun year to see how everything develops. We have some kids that are running on the JV team that could be on varsity in the next few weeks.

Brown County Quad 4-Way:

Girls: Northview , Shakamak , Brown County & Owen Valley Rain and Lightening Out

Boys: Brown County  25, Northview 44 , Shakamak 66 & Owen Valley 97

The boys did a pretty good job considering their number one runner went down on the course. Cody Whipker ran a great race coming in 2nd overall in the meet followed by Connor Guingrich and frosh Logan Minett-Bond. Rounding out the top five was Nick Harding in 6th and Zach Roush in tenth. It was nice to get back to eagle park and run some decent times.

Bloomington North Inv. @ Terre Haute

Girls: Franklin Central 33, Westfield 66, Bloomington South 117, Martinsville 121, Lawrence Central 155, Bloomington North 157, Terre Haute South 173, Perry Central 214, Silver Creek 258, Bloomfield 280, Brown County 282, Northview 367, Southmont 395, Edgewood 408, Crawford County 470, Monrovia and Indian Creek Inc.

The girls ran against some of the best teams in the state this weekend. They came in 11th out of a field of 18 and ran pretty well. Leading the Eagles was Rose Guingrich in 28th place. She had a great race and picked off many runners over the last 2K. Next was Sarah Lewis and Anna Lutes in 44th and 75th respectively. Both had sub par days and will be looking forward to next Tuesday's meet at home. I believe that we had a pretty good start to the season and we just need to learn how to race again...

Boys: Bloomington South 42, Lawrence Central 71, Franklin Central 81, Terre Haute South 148, Perry Central 201, Martinsville 201, Bloomington North 201, Silver Creek 227, Brown County 261, Indian Creek 272, Edgewood 292, Bloomfield 329, Austin 342, Crawford County 349, Northview 364, Eminence 431, Lighthouse Christian, Southmont and Monrovia Inc.

The boys did a pretty good job today by placing ninth in a field of nineteen. The Eagles tried to pack it up for the first three K but it all fell apart between the 2nd and 3rd K. We really need to lean how to run together and not against each other. Leading the boys was Alden Westcott with a 42nd place finish. Alden could have placed higher but his job today was to lead the rest of the young team through the first three K's. The gap for the top five was 1:25 which is to bad for this early in the season. Individuals that ran well are Logan Minett-Bond. For his first five K I thought he really did a great job placing 73rd overall out of 235 runners. Eddie Ryan also ran his first high school race of his career and placed 116th overall. Look for the eagles to be on the move over the next few weeks.
