Roughly 97 percent; that is the percentage of students who passed the 2010-2011 school year's Algebra 1 End-Course Assessment. That percentage is the highest Brown County has ever scored The score also is best in the state for public schools, and fifth in the state for private schools. The only schools that finished ahead of BCHS were Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, Oldenburg Academy, Signature Schools, Inc, and Roncalli High School. Each of these schools are top notch private schools.
"I think being first in the percentage of kids passing the ECA is a note, in the grand scheme of things", Principal Matt Stark said.
The kids who passed the ECA had help from top notch teachers determined to turn the program around. Mr. Mark White, Mrs. Paige Burton, Mr. Andrew Van Sistine, and Miss Catie

Hall doubled down on efforts to help kids improve their skills.
"I give the credit to the teaching staff, and our students, exactly who it belongs with,"  Mr. Stark said. "They work hard today, they'll work hard tomorrow, and they'll always work hard. The students have a critical part in all of this, as a student you should be saying 'Hey I can do this, I can do this well also'".
The significance of this accomplishment is huge. As a smaller school, going up against schools like Carmel and Zionsville, two schools who placed second and third only behind Brown County, we are at a disadvantage.
However, Brown County came through and finished first. "It's like, to make an analogy, the Detroit Lions football team is having a good season. Are they a franchise team? No. But, you start to engage hope, and being to think; 'Okay, we can start turning things around'", Mr. Stark said.
